Zombie Dickheads in Time Insensitive

Zombie Dickheads in Time Insensitive

One Word: Zombies

Duane Willoughby co-wrote the 2014 48 Hour Film Project Atlanta short Zombie Dickheads in Time Insensitive. The short took home two awards: Best Special Effects and Audience Award in Group C. The film exploits the popularity of zombies. Zombies are very, very popular. Written, filmed, and edited over one weekend, the movie is humorous and quirky. Duane has a bright future.

Duane wrote the highly anticipated horror movie Abigail, which is scheduled to begin production in early 2015 and released in 2016. The film is loosely based on a true story set in Georgia. Pretty awesome since the Atlanta area has seen a substantial increase in films shot in the state. Duane is also extremely fortunate.

Thousands of people toy with the idea of penning an Oscar winning script. Unfortunately the reality is quite bleak. Between 30,000-50,000 scripts are registered annually. Of those, 150 scripts are sold or optioned. Less than 10 are actually produced. The odds are a staggering 5,000 to 1 that someone will sell a screenplay. Consider that the odds for being possessed by Satan are 7,000 to 1. Yikes!

Join the Archer Paranormal Radio Gals as we chat with Duane as he explains what time insensitive is. Tune in Thursday, October 16th at 7 pm EST on http://www.liveparanormal.com.

Horror Movie Abigail: Walls have Secrets, too

Filmmaking has expanded in the Atlanta area. API Gals’ friend Brian Popkin, CEO of Elfkin Studios and Post Productions, has been involved in two 48 Film Project in Atlanta. This year’s entry was a zombie spoof. Pure comedy! It won an audience award for best short. In addition, Brian is now involved in a full-length horror movie, Abigail: Walls have Secrets, too, which hits theaters in 2015/2016.

Tune in Thursday, October 9th at 7 pm EST to Archer Paranormal Radio, www.liveparanormal.com, as Brian discusses his film projects and his paranormal experiences.

Booth Brother Domination

Statistically documentary films outperform other genres. Documentaries are low-budget, require few actors, and utilize a lot of public domain materials. Filmmakers can produce a quality documentary for little expense. Comparing all genre films, horror movies come in a distant second. Consider the horror documentary. Gold mine potential! The Booth Brothers write, produce, and direct some of the best horror documentaries out there.

The Booth Brothers have found their niche. Start with a popular haunted locale or famous possession case. Conduct extensive research. Combine newspaper articles, interviews, investigative footage, and re-enactments. Finalize by laying a music score. The end product is an educational and entertaining documentary. I especially enjoy the music. Haunting and unique to each production, the music score weaves the various pieces together. Perfection.

The Booth Brothers now seek to tackle mainstream moviemaking. Dead Still, an original SyFy movie, premieres on October 6th at 9 pm EST. I can’t wait to see their transition from non-fiction material to fiction. The story revolves around an antique Victorian camera previously used to take mourning portraits, or memento mori. Before cameras became affordable, photographers came to houses to photograph the recently deceased. The purpose was to provide the grieving family one image of their loved one. This practice has stopped, but the camera was passed down through a family.

The camera’s new owner takes wedding portraits. He decides to use the old camera. Bad idea! Tune in to the SyFy Channel on October 6th at 9 pm EST to see how bad it gets. In the meantime, listen to Archer Paranormal Radio on Thursday, October 2nd as Christopher Saint Booth discusses the movie.

Cancellations Blow

Client cancellations are inevitable. For the Labor Day weekend API (Archer Paranormal Investigations, www.archer-pi.com), suffered not one, not two, but three cancellations.

Originally the API Gals were heading to Dalton, Georgia as special guests on the Haunted Dalton Tour. Scheduling challenges occurred, and the tour was re-scheduled for this Saturday, September 6th. Check out https://www.facebook.com/HauntedDaltonGeorgia for more information.

API scheduled a huge—and I mean huge—investigation complete with drone footage and the latest tools and cameras. This was big. Lots of activity. Great history. Gorgeous plantation house. Unfortunately the client was injured in a car accident and had to postpone.

API quickly lined up another investigation at a residence south of Atlanta. Again. Another cancellation.

Holiday weekends seem ideal for investigations. For a paranormal team it provides another recovery day. Investigation hangovers blow. However, homeowners rarely think it through and often cancel because they want to enjoy the holiday. Alone. Or out of town. Scheduling residential investigations over a holiday weekend doesn’t make sense. Instead, paranormal teams should only schedule business locations over three day weekends.

Cancellations happen. I understand. I take them as signs that I’ll collect better evidence next time. So I spent my Saturday trolling TV for college football games waiting for the UF kick-off at 7 pm. Of course, there’s a rain delay. After three hours, I got another cancellation. Ugh!
