1976 Hair Sample Not Bigfoot, But from Deer Family

Peter Byrne, Director of the Bigfoot Information Center and Exhibition, wrote Jay Cochran, Assistant Director of the F.B.I., in 1976 asking for a hair sample to be tested. Mr. Byrne believed the sample was from a Bigfoot creature. Testing was conducted with the results conclusive. The sample belonged to an animal from the deer family. This minor setback did not deter Byrne.

In 1976, Byrne was contacted by two U.S. Forest Service Biologists to discuss a strange encounter. The men spotted an upright, bipedal creature lumbering through the woods. Byrne arrived and found a tuft of hair. Having read a New York Times article about the F.B.I. performing non-criminal analysis by special request, Byrne exchanged several letters and then shipped off the sample only to wait 40 years for the answer.

Byrne, now 93-years-old, received the news via newly released documents uploaded to the F.B.I.’s Vault website. This resource contains documents requested through F.O.I.A. (Freedom of Information Act) requests and deemed appropriate for public viewing. Some information is redated; however, most of the documents contain a plethora of information on a wide range of topics.

Even though Mr. Byrne found the response “disappointing,” he believes it would not have deterred his lifelong mission to find evidence of the existence of Bigfoot creature.

“Mysterious Elf” Actually a Human

On June 6, 2019, Vivian Gomez of Colorado Springs, Colorado uploaded a video of a “mysterious” creature to her Facebook account. She asked: “[W]hat the heck??” Gomez captured a prankster dancing on her security camera.

The 10-second video failed to show where the person went. Instead, Gomez cropped the video to merely show the backside of a human walking down her driveway. Had she let the 15 million viewers who have watched the video see the ending, she would have given up the joke.

Watch the video here: https://www.facebook.com/vivian.gomez.35977/videos/10216790852937217/

Although Gomez probably wasn’t in on the joke, she should not be so cynical about whether the mystery will be solved. It has. Someone in flip flops came to her house and decided to dance away.

“Fairy Skull” Jewelry—Pure Magic!

Japanese artist, Shinji Nakaba, creates “wearable sculptures.” Since 1974, Nakaba has sculpted one-of-a-kind, made-to-order jewelry made from common items, such as clothing pins, to precious gems, stones, and metals. His smallest creations are called “Fairy Skulls.”

CIMG1381990

Nakaba practiced on a lot of other materials before settling on pearls. He found that pearls were easy to carve his miniature skulls called “Vanitas,” Latin for “vanity,” resembling 16th and 17th century funerary art.

“Mourning” rings were popular from the 16th century until the early 1900s. Although poor people were unable to afford such jewelry, the middle-class families would begin saving for these sentimental tokens. Wealthy families handed out engraved rings to funeral service attendees. The rings served as a reminder of the deceased. The practice ended with the commencement of the First World War; there were just too many dead soldiers returning home to sustain the tradition. For some, the reminder was too much to bear.

These “Fairy Skulls” are gentle reminders of our dead ancestors, as well as, the imaginary creatures who may exist. Nakaba titles and signs each skull; therefore, beware of fakes sold on Etsy, as he does not sell his skulls there.

The Tokyo-based artist ships internationally. His website provides instructions on the piece you seek. For more information and to peruse his collections, see http://s-nakaba.shop-pro.jp/.

“Yarn Darling” Shanell Papp Loves Knitting and the Macabre

Shanell Papp’s upbringing fostered an interest in death and the macabre. She spent part of her childhood on a farm where she took part in caring and slaughtering the animals. Down the street was a cemetery. That alone provided ample content for her artistic endeavors. Her grandmother, owner of a thrift store/flea market, taught Papp how to knit and to crochet. Papp’s 2008 labor-intensive show Lab (Skeleton) was an instant hit and still discussed ten years later.

Papp, born in 1980, was enrolled in an MFA (Master of Fine Art) program at the University of Saskatchewan (Canada) when she began to crochet the life-sized skeleton. It took 4 months to create. Add another 4 months to create and to assemble the internal organs, and Lab (Skeleton) was born—much like Frankenstein’s Monster, a huge influence on Papp’s work.

Creating anatomically correct crochet skeletons is labor-intensive. Papp refers to medical textbooks, visiting college classes, and looking at real skeletons to maintain the accuracy in each piece. She even purchased a gurney to hold one of her creations. Papp says her art is an act of “patience, skill, and commitment.” She sees the pieces as conversation starters. Once completed and installed, Papp enjoys walking amongst the crowd and watching their reactions.

“Lab #4” depicts a skeleton on a table draped with a white tablecloth. The life-sized skeleton is made with yarn and thread and is crocheted and sewn together. It was created in 2006.

In 2013, Papp created “The Shining/Banff” comparing different rooms from King’s Overlook Hotel with one of the Banff Hotels. Needless to say, The Shining is one of Papp’s favorite horror movies.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) Time Warp Picnic Event Is Fully Booked for 2019

The iconic and popular audience-participatory film The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) was filmed at Oakley Court in Windsor. Several horror movies filmed on location, and the castle has a long history. At the time the movie was filmed, the castle was empty and only used for film productions. In 1981, the castle was renovated and opened as a boutique hotel—complete with a “Rocky Horror Package.”

The 118-bedroom hotel includes an upscale restaurant, pool, gym, and gardens. The “Rocky Horror Package” includes an overnight stay in an elegantly appointed room, full English breakfast, outdoor buffet for the “Time Warp Picnic,” and late-night screenings of the film. Unfortunately, all reservations are taken. However, the hotel is maintaining a waiting list.

Keep an eye on 2020 dates, as they are not posted yet. Request “mansion suites” when booking since those rooms are original to the house.

Dark (2017- ) Season 2 Premieres on Netflix on June 21st

Cancel your plans. You’ve got 10 days to binge season 1 of Dark, the first German series to be streamed internationally, before season 2 begins. And you want to be ready!

Dark follows three storylines set in three distinct time periods linking the families in the small town, Winden. Season 1 opens with teenager Jonas Kahnwald returning to school after his father’s suicide. A child goes missing and reignites the fears from decades before when another child disappeared. Read my review here: https://thehauntedlibrarian.com/2017/12/17/dark-binge-worthy/

Netflix ordered season 2 (a short 8-episode season) within a month of debuting, with season 3 announced shortly thereafter. Netflix announced that a staggering 90% of viewership comes from outside Germany. It is one of the most popular non-English series viewed. It can be watched with subtitles or dubbed.

3rd Installment of Annabelle Arrives in Time for Summer

Annabelle Comes Home (2019) hits theaters on June 26. In the meantime, catch up on some facts and inconsistencies in the infamous Annabelle story.

Annabelle Comes Home (2019) picks up immediately after the Warrens take the possessed doll home and place her in their occult museum. In the 3rd installment in the series, the doll sets her sights on the Warrens’ daughter Judy, now played by Mckenna Grace. Annabelle causes the other items in the museum to manifest and focus their combined demonic energy on Judy.

This will be the directorial debut of Gary Dauberman, who wrote The Nun, both It Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, and the earlier Annabelle films. The bar may not be that high for him to cross.

Doll

Here are some facts and inconsistencies about Annabelle.

  1. This will be the 3rd movie in the series.
  2. It is the 7th movie in the Conjuring franchise.
  3. The real doll is an over-sized Raggedy Ann doll.
  4. It was purchased either in 1968 or 1970 by a nursing student’s mother.
  5. Donna is the nursing student who was terrorized by the doll, along with her roommate Angie and other nursing student Lou.
  6. Early articles spelled the doll’s name as “Annabel.” Somewhere along the way, it changed to “Annabelle.”
  7. None of the Annabelle stories have been corroborated against Ed and Lorraine’s accounts.
  8. The first 2 Annabelle movies starred Sterling Jerins as “Judy.” She has been replaced with Mckenna Grace.
  9. Mckenna Grace starred as “Juliet” in the flop Amityville: The Awakening (2017).
  10. Initially scheduled for a July 2nd opening, the movie was bumped up a week as not to compete the eagerly expected Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019).
  11. Follow the money. Industry expectations for Annabelle’s opening weekend are $35-45 million with a total domestic tally of $101 million.

Mediocrity Is Travel Channel’s Business Plan

Travel Channel announced that the subpar and totally faked “paranormal” show Paranormal Caught on Camera has been renewed for a second season, ordering 26 new episodes. Hopefully, they will hire a new slate of “experts” and writers who actually vet and verify these stories.

Stop watching this crap. Travel Channel is single-handedly ruining the paranormal field, which is the basis for my 2019 academic conference presentations. Stay tuned.

Biodiversity Study of Loch Ness Announcement Set for September

Professor Neil Gemmell, University of Otago (New Zealand), and his team spent 2018 collecting water samples from Loch Ness in Scotland. Minuscule pieces of urine, feces, skin, scale, and fur were contained in the samples. Gemmell’s team researched and catalogued their findings. Ultimately, the team hoped to compare the results to 4 popular Nessie theories. The announcement on findings has been postponed twice. Now Gemmell is shooting for September.

Cataloguing the results slowed the process. In addition, Gemmell was in negotiations for a documentary to be filmed in tandem. Parties failed to reach an agreement; therefore, there will not be a documentary on the process.

Early reports claim that the team has identified 15 species of fish and 3,000 species of bacteria within the loch. As for Nessie? Three of the theories has reportedly been eliminated. However, one expert not associated with the study predicts that the Nessie myth will endure…no matter the announcement.

Stay tuned.

May Brought THREE Bigfoot Sightings to Georgia

Cherry Log, Georgia is home to the self-professed “World’s Largest Bigfoot Museum.” The museum’s official name is Expedition: Bigfoot, The Sasquatch Museum. Totaling 4,500 square feet, the museum also claims to be “North Georgia’s Biggest Family Attraction.” During the month of May, the museum’s owner Dave Bakara received three separate reports of sightings in North Georgia.

On Monday, May 20, Edward Lee spotted a 7-8-foot hairy bipedal creature walking along Highway 515. Lee noted the creature’s pointed head. Lee thought better of exiting his truck. Sadly, he did not take any pictures.

After Bakara posted the sighting on the museum’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pg/1EXPEDITIONBIGFOOT/posts/?ref=page_internal), a second man claimed that on May 27th he saw a black/gray creature attempting to fish for trout in a nearby “branch” or small creek. This witness did exit his vehicle; however, he, too, did not take any pictures.

On May 31, Bakara posted that a woman reported that her aunt saw “a huge hairy ape” crossing a road in Georgetown, Georgia. This creature is probably not the same Blue Ridge creature since Georgetown is nearly 250 miles south of Blue Ridge. It’s also worth noting that the aunt described the creature as having reddish brown hair. As with the others, the aunt did not take any photographs.

While Bigfoot sightings in Georgia are rare, there are some. According to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO), https://www.bfro.net/GDB/#usa, as of 2017 there were 132 sightings in Georgia. At least 8 other states rank higher in sightings. These three latest sightings are not reflected in the BFRO numbers.

2018-Fear-Campaign-Paranormal-Bar-Graph-1-580x448

According to the “Chapman University Survey of American Fears Wave 5 2018 Paranormal Study,” 21% of Americans believe Bigfoot creatures exist. The percentage is increasing. With more people out searching or stumbling upon these creatures, surely they will take charged cellphones to take pictures.
