Season 1 opens with teenager Jonas Kahnwald returning to school after his father’s suicide. A child goes missing and reignites the fears from decades before when another child disappeared. Netflix ordered season 2 (a short 8-episode season) within a month of debuting, with season 3 announced shortly thereafter. Netflix announced that a staggering 90% of viewership comes from outside Germany. It is one of the most popular non-English series viewed. It can be watched with subtitles or dubbed.
