New York Times Reports Newly Disclosed UFO Sightings in 2015

Navy pilots witnessed and videotaped several encounters with unidentified flying objects while in the air or on military aircraft carriers. The reports were declassified and reported on by the award-winning newspaper. Seems UFO activity may have increased…well, certainly the reporting of such activity continues.

The May 27, 2019 article titled “Wow, What Is That?” profiles a series of UFO sightings by Navy pilots. Lt. Ryan Graves details the sightings occurring from the summer of 2014 to March 2015 off the East Coast of the United States. All sightings were reported to the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), the UFO tracking program begun in 2007 at the request of then Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). The program was funded from 2007-2012, when it ceased most operations. Reports of the program completely closing were exaggerated, as this blog and the New York Times article proves.

Lt. Graves described unknown aircraft flying 30,000 feet into the air and reaching hypersonic speeds. He and his mates were unable to locate any exterior engines and were stunned that the aircrafts remained in the sky for 12 hours. They followed procedures and reported their observations.

A small but largely significant fact came out of the article. Government officials, notably the Pentagon, boasted about the closure of the UFO tracking program noting that funding had been zero-lined, meaning the agency had not been allocated funds to continue. At the time, a few writers (myself included) read between the lines and reported that the agency would continue to collect and to investigate all sightings from military personnel. In light of possible funding for a Space Force, Congress needs to step up and re-fund AATIP.

Quirky New Mystery Show Debuts on Acorn

Queens of Mystery (2019) debuted on the British streaming service Acorn in April. The 3-episode series features three crime-writing sisters who assist their 28-year-old niece, D. S. Matilda Stone, solve murders in the fictional village of Wildemarsh. This quirky series is addictive and easy to binge.

Olivia Vinall stars as the newly minted Detective Sergeant Matilda Stone. Matilda’s mother disappeared when she was a child, and she was raised by her three aunts. Julie Graham (Shetland) is “Cat,” former rocker now graphic artist. Cat is the cool aunt, complete with stripped pants, tattoos, and Mallen streak in her hair. Siobhan Redmond (Unforgotten) is “Jane,” owner of the local mystery bookstore Murder Ink. She gives off the librarian feel. Finally, there’s Sarah Woodward (DCI Banks), who plays “Beth,” the atypical middle age aunt. Although the aunts seem like stereotypes, they’re not. They ground Matilda.

Each episode opens with a fairytale pop-up book animated sequence and is narrated by Juliet Stevenson. The show has a profound Pushing Daisies feel, as well as, Agatha Raisin. Fingers crossed there will be a second season.

Jordan Peele’s second film Us shattered box office expectations this weekend. Here are five things to know before you go see the movie. No worries: no spoilers are discussed.

  1. The film’s budget was $20 million, relatively low for full-length feature films. The film was expected to earn between $38-45 million in the U.S. Instead it brought in a cool $70 million. Global total is nearly $87 million.
  2. The film’s code name was “Deep Cuts.” Film canisters mailed to theaters contained this code name.
  3. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk was used for a lot of the filming. Since it boasts numerous vintage arcade games and rides, the boardwalk was an ideal location. Dummies were used to represent people on the rides, and CGI graphics used to add people’s bodies. By the way, the boardwalk was the set for another horror film: The Lost Boys (1987).
  4. Look for the number sequence 11:11 as it appears throughout the film.
  5. Jordan Peele’s cameo is the voice of the fun house narrator.

Look for Us at your local cinema. With it’s strong opening weekend, it should be around for a few weeks. The movie is rated R and runs 1 hour and 56 minutes.
