Exorcists Needed: Filling the Gap

According to the Catholic Church, nearly 500,000 cases of demonic possession are reported every year in Italy. It is easy to extrapolate that there are more people in need. There is a growing need for professionally trained exorcists, denominational and non-denominational included.

A few years ago, the Catholic Church’s Exorcist Benigno Palilla spoke on the Vatican Radio discussing the Church’s push to train more exorcists. These ordained male priests would train for a minimum of one week. Palilla warned of self-taught exorcists. Therefore, the Church authorized the formation of The International Association of Exorcists (IAE) in 2014. The organization has over 200 members working on 6 continents. Unfortunately, the Catholic Church only assists Catholics.

The International Catholic Association of Exorcists (ICAOE) supports ordained Catholic, Anglican, and Orthodox people who are firm in their beliefs and want to combat Satan. The organization formed in 2010. It, too, has over 200 members practicing on 6 continents. Founded by The Most Reverend David Biery, Th.D., the organization has helped over 38,000 people. They live by the motto: “all Catholics are NOT Roman, but all Romans are Catholics.”

Other non-Catholic denominations perform exorcisms. However, this is troublesome, as some feel that anyone can conduct an exorcism without any training. The two aforementioned organizations stress training. The Catholic Church is the One True Church of Jesus Christ. The Rite of Exorcism is uniquely Catholic. Other religions may perform exorcisms; however, they are not conducting the exorcism in the name of Jesus. Be cautious of any non-Catholic religion/church claiming to perform exorcisms in the name of Jesus but discount the role of the Catholic Church. They do not speak in the name of Jesus. They may cause more harm than good.

beware-of-false-exorcists

Exorcists do not need to be ordained in a religion. Satan works his evil on non-Catholics. Quite a few religions have their form of exorcisms. In fact, an exorcist may not be attached to any church. R.H. Stavis is a female non-denominational exorcist. Read the review of her book at https://thehauntedlibrarian.com/2018/02/13/sister-of-darkness-the-chronicles-of-a-modern-exorcist/. Stavis is an example of a Spiritual person who has been called to God’s work.

Exorcists seem to be everywhere in the media. The hit show Supernatural may encourage someone to take up arms. But they should not. Religious affiliation is not mandatory. Experience is.

5 Things I Learned While Binging Supernatural

The hit TV show Supernatural is heading into the home stretch. After 13 successful seasons, the show will end with a partial Season 14, on its 300th episode. It secured the title of longest running science fiction TV show in television history seasons ago. Further, its fan base seems strong and steady. According to the Executive Producer Robert Singer, the time just felt right. While binging the show, I learned 5 important things.

  1. Motels are better on TV. Sam and Dean Winchester stay at some kitsch motels. The demon hunting brothers have one rule when separated: Locate the first motel listed in the Yellow Pages and check in. Some of the motels would rival the best boutique hotels which charge substantially more. There are lots of Pinterest pages showcasing the motels and the insanely clever décor.

ManyMotelRooms

  1. Dean’s beloved 1967 Chevy Impala is too tinny sounding for me. I think I would slide right off the polished leather and onto the floor, too—not to mention it is entirely too clean for me. The Impala was not the initial choice in for the pilot episode; however, the writer reconsidered after learning that the Impala’s trunk was large enough to hold a body. The show has 9 cars. The predominantly used one is called the “Hero 1 Impala.” BTW, there have been 2 license plates. The first one was a Kansas tag “KAZ 2Y5.” It was replaced with an Ohio tag, “CNK 80Q3,” on the 20th episode of Season 2.

Impala

  1. I cannot visit the locations on an epic cross-country American road trip. The series is filmed predominantly in Vancouver, BC. However, I will be able to visit “The Rosemary” 1915 Tudor Revival house in the near future. The house served as the “Pierpont Inn” in the “Playthings” episode. The massive home (all 16,000 square feet) fell into disrepair and sold in 2013 for over $12 million Canadian dollars. The new owner, Mingfei Zhao, retired to Vancouver for the clean air. He has invested over $6 million in rehabbing the home. Once completed, the home will be open for fundraisers to aid the rehabilitation of other historic properties.

TudorRevival

  1. The show felt a little too X-Files-ish. Kim Manners, producer and director, worked on another popular science fiction TV show: The X-Files. He came to the production and directed 17 episodes before dying in 2009 from lung cancer.

X-Files crossover

  1. Who doesn’t love the song “Carry on Wayward Son” (1976)? Apparently, Netflix. The series is able to broadcast the Kansas anthem (the band and not the state) when the show airs on the CW; however, due to licensing, the song is not included on the streaming episodes on Netflix. But I can dig it. There are plenty of other groovy songs in the episodes.

Sister of Darkness: The Chronicles of a Modern Exorcist

“I’m just Rachel Stavis, the exorcist next door.”

Self-professed “Goth Barbie” is not your stereotypical exorcist. She’s not a Catholic priest. In fact, she’s non-denominational. She’s incredibly likeable. But most importantly: She’s genuine.

Exorcists need not be Catholic priests. Hollywood likes portraying exorcists as male priests. It’s an oversimplification yet one that audiences expect. Peruse any motion picture listing of movies on exorcisms, and you will find males taking the lead. In reality, women are fully capable of performing exorcisms. Enter R.H. Stavis.

Rachel Stavis breaks the mold and her semi-autobiographical book highlighting some of her most interesting cases showcases her skills as a modern-day exorcist. Sister of Darkness: The Chronicles of a Modern Exorcist, published this month, is part biography, part educational reference book. Every paranormal investigator should own a copy highlighting the invaluable information contained within.

Stavis is a professional writer. She has authored 4 books under her initials R.H. Stavis. She is most known for creating the backstory for Lara Croft, Tomb Raider. Yet, something kept tugging her into the paranormal realm.

From an early age, Stavis has seen entities, abstract smoke or blobs floating or attached to humans. She pushed these images aside until finally giving in and embracing whom she would become: Professional Exorcist.

Sister of Darkness: The Chronicles of a Modern Exorcist is a refreshing look at the work an exorcist performs. Stavis offers sage wisdom explaining her classification system on the entities she sees. And it makes sense. All of it makes sense.

Sister of Darkness is well written, as well as, well laid out. Stavis’ chatty nature makes for an enjoyable read, even though the topic is extremely serious.

Stavis’ book is a cautionary tale about the dark powers continually working to devour and to disrupt. Heed her warnings. Most importantly, practice what she preaches.

Sister of Darkness: The Chronicles of a Modern Exorcist is available online in hardback and electronically. Follow Rachel on Twitter @RHStavis to see where she is signing books.

ParaNews for the Week of February 12, 2018

ParaNews for February 12, 2018:

  • Lara Crockett Muscolino’s husband, Ricardo, was sentenced last Friday to 50 years in jail for murdering her. Sentencing was 30 years for 2nd degree murder and 20 years for using a firearm in the commission of a felony. The combined sentencing will run consecutively essentially ensuring he will die in jail. Maryland state law requires felons to serve 50% of their sentences before becoming eligible for parole. Lara was well known in the paranormal community. She co-founded Maryland Ghost Trackers with fellow nurse, Matt K., in 2008. She is deeply missed. For an in-depth discussion, please read “Justice for Lara.”

DeadFiles

  • Dead Files started Season 9 on Saturday, February 3rd. This past Saturday, February 10th, the 2nd episode “Deadly Reflections” aired. Amy Allan helped a widow in Waxahachie, Texas who was consumed by guilt in the premature death of her husband. The Travel Channel website has incorrect dates for the season. Follow @TheDeadFilesTV for the most up-to-date information and a video of Amy being distracted by two adorable cats. Apparently, cats are her weakness.

Twitter

  • Professional golfer Graham DeLaet tweeted out images and a video of the UFO he spotted last week on February 6th. The Canadian was in Ixtapa, Mexico when he gazed up at the sky and caught sight of a white ball of light. Graham stated is was the “freakiest thing I’ve ever seen.” Twitter users suggested that he may have caught sight of Elon Musk’s SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. Like the pro he is, Graham took that news in stride, saying it was pretty cool, too.

Justice for Lara

Lara Crockett Muscolino and her family finally have justice. Last Friday, her husband, Ricardo Muscolino, age 54, was sentenced to 50 years for murdering Lara. Sadly, domestic violence affects every demographic and income bracket in America—even the paranormal community.

On August 31, 2016, with their three daughters in the house, Ricardo gunned down Lara in a fit of rage. He shot at her five times; four shots struck her with one fatally wounding the 48-year-old nurse and part-time ghost hunter.

In handing down her sentence, Hartford (MD) County Circuit Judge Yolanda Curtin noted how Ricardo, a trained critical care nurse, fled the scene, refusing to lend care and possibly save Lara. She also noted he “showed no mercy.”

Indeed, Ricardo let his attorney speak for him. Attorney William Murphy, Jr. stated, “He’s had a chance to pray and he’s extraordinarily sad about the consequences of that night.”

“Sad” does not capture anything remotely close to what Lara’s family has gone through. Her mother died 6 months and 6 days after Lara’s murder. Her father, Darryl, said, “No man should have to bury his child.” Lara was killed 2 days before his 79th birthday. Darryl kept the birthday card she mailed him as he attempts to come to grips with her murder. Lara’s sister, Tonya Crockett, addressed the Court telling how Ricardo was a coward who destroyed their lives. “We will always be mourning who we were before all this happened. We’ve all been given a life sentence in some way, and I hope you give him the maximum sentence and he never gets out of jail in his lifetime.”

Judge Curtin sentenced Ricardo to 30 years on the 2nd degree murder conviction and 20 years for using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He will serve them consecutively and will not be eligible for parole until he completes 25 years behind bars (under state law, a convicted felon must serve 50% of his sentence before applying for parole). Ricardo will die in jail. He remains behind bars as he appeals the November 2, 2017 conviction.

Lara was well known in the paranormal community. She co-founded Maryland Ghost Trackers with fellow nurse, Matt K, in 2008. The group predominantly handled residential hauntings and shared their experiences with paranormal enthusiasts. The group remains active and promises to “carry Lara’s mission onward!”

GotGhosts

Domestic violence is prevalent in America. According to national statistics, 20 people per minute are abused by Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). Over 10 million people per year are abused. During their lifetimes, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will be abused. One in 3 women and 1 in 20 men are murder victims. Seventy-two percent (72%) of murder-suicides are the result of IPV with 94% of the victims being females.

Statistically speaking, it was only a matter of time before the paranormal community was affected. In 2015, Mark Constantino gunned down his estranged wife Debra (Debby) and her roommate before killing himself. Debby had left Mark after suffering years of physical abuse. The paranormal community reeled with their deaths. Although it is overly simplistic to blame these deaths on paranormal forces, the reality is that anyone can fall victim to domestic violence.

Tonya Crockett is assembling stories to share with Lara’s daughters. If you have a story or a message, please visit the Facebook page “Justice for Lara Crockett Muscolino” at https://www.facebook.com/justiceforlaracrockettmuscolino/.

Paranormal News: February 5, 2018

ParaNews for February 5, 2018.

  • Winchester (2018) beat expectations debuting in 3rd place taking in $9.3 million this past Super Bowl weekend. “Older” women comprised 64% of ticket purchasers. The industry defines “older” as anyone over the age of 25. (Ouch!)

Prince

  • Prince, who died prematurely at age 57 from an accidental fentanyl poisoning in 2016, really did feel that holograms projecting dead musicians playing along with living artists were demonic. He proclaimed, “I am not a demon” in a 2008 interview in Guitar World. Reading between the lines may mean that Prince took holograms as rising from the dead and against his religious beliefs.

Group

  • “We’re definitely not in Kentucky anymore.” Despite lackluster reviews, The Cloverfield Paradox, released immediately to Netflix last night as the Super Bowl game ended, was binged watched by a lot of people. Fans, critics, and those new to the Cloverfield franchise took the bait and logged in. Official numbers have not been reported; however, the 3rd installment was originally going to be released theatrically this April. Just because most (not all) panned the film, viewers should tune in. It ties the first 2 films together and leaves the door open to the 4th film.
